Oprah, Meet Thomas Swick. (He’s No James Frey.)

Getting on “Oprah” is one of South Florida Sun-Sentinel travel editor Thomas Swick’s goals for the year. Some of his other goals? Finish his book “A Million Little Places to See Before You Die,” take a trip somewhere with Angelina Jolie, and start his own travel talk show.

Oprah is a one-time thing. To really have an impact I will need to be more visible. I’m thinking of a high-tech desk, with me and maybe three other travel writers in tailored suits and brilliant ties. (Very The NFL Today.) We’ll take strong positions—“I don’t think Slovenia has a chance this year”—but we’ll laugh and kid, making fun of each other’s favorites—“You can’t stop talking about Bangkok, can you Ed?”—and early traveling days. It’ll be fast, fun, fake.

The rest of the faux details are in his very real column in Sunday’s paper.

Tom will have to pick me as a color commentator on his talk show.  I have a million little reasons, including the fact that I “embellished” to him about being a humor writer the first time I met him. It worked, he’s published my stuff more than once.  I think he’d be proud.
