Rothstein on Lévy and Tocqueville

As Jim mentioned last week, the May issue of the Atlantic Monthly features the first of several stories by French writer Bernard-Henri Lévy chronicling his recent travels following in the footsteps of “Democracy in America” author Alexis de Tocqueville. In Monday’s New York Times, Edward Rothstein calls the assignment “a stroke of genius.” Rothstein examines the Atlantic piece and retells a few choice bits from Lévy’s appearance last week at the New York Public Library.
