My copy of The Father of All Things, by World Hum contributor Tom Bissell, arrived in the mail this week and I can’t wait to crack it open. It’s been on my must-read list since I first came across Bissell’s story, War Wounds, in The Best American Travel Writing 2005 a couple of years back.

I’m easy. I loved Robert Reid’s World Cup of Travel chart.

I love Gary Shteyngart’s travel writing. I loved “Absurdistan.” But all my love for his work is currently focused on the inspired trailer for his new book:

I loved the World Cup fever that’s sweeping even the cafeteria at Hearst, where I’m filling in as an editor at the moment. Today’s dessert selection includes not just these World Cup cookies, but soccer ball cookies, and South African flag-colored profiteroles. Not quite the same as being there, but I’ll take it. In fact, I did. And now I have green and yellow frosting on my dress.
