Why Flights Are Getting Longer

The same flights are taking longer these days—by a few minutes, give or take—because many airlines are slowing down their planes to conserve fuel. No complaints here. It’s not exactly the kind of slow travel some have in mind, but it’s a start.

Hi Jim:

If they legalized a Smoking section on planes, there wouldn’t be a fuel shortage.

I’m part owner of Continental Land & Fur, an American oil company that owns land the size of an American state, so you can trust me on this one.

And I am recovering from the shock of danger and deprivation.

I’m all for a green makeover, but sometimes I do wonder if it actually makes a difference. I mean, you travel here and there, and buy some carbon credits to compensate for it, and think that its all good. Is there anyone who actually does something to compensate for travel? I mean, like say you take one flight, then you have to plant ten trees, or something like that. Forget the carbon credits, people should be taught to compensate directly.
