imageThis week we interviewed Susan Fox Rogers, editor of “Antarctica: Life on the Ice.” She talked about the recent cruise ship wreck, as well the power of Antarctica to change visitors. We asked her for three Antarctica book suggestions. Here’s what she told us.

Terra Incognita: Travels in Antarctica by Sara Wheeler
Fox Rogers says: “She kind of hitchhikes her way around the continent, for lack of a better way of putting it. She’s a beautiful writer with a great sense of adventure.”

The Worst Journey in the World by Apsley Cherry-Garrard
Fox Rogers says: “It’s a beautiful, heartbreaking account of Robert Falcon Scott’s last expedition. It encompasses both Cherry’s experiences and the last expedition. It’s the classic account.

Big Dead Place: Inside the Strange and Menacing World of Antarctica by Nicholas Johnson
Fox Rogers says: “It is the stuff. It gives this very raw insider’s view of life on the ice.”

Thanks for these recommendations. I will be checking out Big Dead Place: Inside the Strange and Menacing World of Antarctica by Nicholas Johnson. I have always had a fascination with (or maybe it’s more of a curiosity about) Antarctica.
