Intriguing question posed by William Powers over at Slate: “If gigantic Germany could be green, couldn’t any country?” He adds: “You know, like the big one between Canada and Mexico.” To explore his query, Powers spent two weeks in Germany with a focus on green travel, accompanied by “eco-architect” Mymza Wever Azcui. Slate has his dispatches this week in another worthwhile installment of Well-Traveled.

The article talks about many of Germany’s failures in being green even thought they have the infrustructure and government involvement in peoples lives to faciliate it.  It would be much more difficult for the U.S. to go green because we don’t have a public transportaiton infrustructure or the same government involvement in our personal lives.  Whenever I had the opportunity I used public transport (why would anyone want the expense & trouble of a car in the city?), consered and recycled dish and dehumidifier water to wash clothing and flush, hung clothes on the line, etc.  It amazes me to see people sit in the SUVs running the engine as they wait for the commuter train.  We all can do out bit to to conserve earth’s resources.
