Maps, Mash-Ups and ‘the Democratization of Spatial Data’

To mash-up or not to mash-up? The Globe and Mail takes a look at the origins of the map mash-up and the people that create them—as well as the traditionalists who don’t approve of the trend.

One cartographer tells writer Patrick White that with mash-ups, “you lose that tactile relationship” that paper maps can offer. Well, true. I’m a believer in the importance of the traditional map. But mash-ups (like this one or this one) can be so much fun.
