If I remember correctly, the typo vigilantes got themselves in big trouble after they vandalized a historic sign. These apostrophe seem to be going down the same route. Don’t these people have anything better to do?

Hurrah for the Apostrophe Protection Society. I say bring back the apostrophes. What’s next? A ban on ellipses? Em-dashes? The killing off of the semicolon? Enough is enough. And I mean that. Language is a living thing but putting the kibsoh on apostrophes is just stupid. Perhaps Ray Davies can write an anthem for them. In the meantime, they should use The Village Green Preservation Society. (Such a good song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zL9tyzE83nc&feature=related)

The vigilantes did get in trouble—probation and a year-long ban from U.S. National Parks.
Completely agree, Jenna. And thanks for that link. Always good to hear some Kinks.
