imageI don’t know if I can agree with the interviewee in this story who argues that “New Orleans has always been the home of civilized drinking.” I suppose that depends on your definition of “civilized.”

I can agree, though, that there’s no better home than the Crescent City for a museum dedicated to cocktail drinking in America.

The Museum of the American Cocktail opens Monday and will cover American drinking history from Jefferson’s presidency on. I’m headed to New Orleans this weekend, and I’ll look forward to checking it out—not to mention sampling some of the city’s finest.

It sounds like a very good tourist attraction to help the economy out, not to mention a good place to get tipsy.  Yeah, civilized drinking must be a real specific term.

New Orleans and civilized aren’t usually refered to in the same sentence. The Cajun spirit needs to kick some civilized butt before the fun begins.

Yeah, that picture clearly shows how New Orleans is the home for civilized drinking.

If by “civilized” they mean peeing in doorways and chundering in gutters.
I’ll definitely check out the museum, though.

I was there at the opening.  The museum is fantastic—fun and educational.  The history of the cocktail is a fascinating lens through which to view US history.  Definitely a not-to-miss destination for visitors to New Orleans.  Plus, it’s air conditioned!
