imageMark Jenkins is the author of the new book “A Man’s Life: Dispatches from Dangerous Places.” Frank Bures interviewed Jenkins, and he asked him for three travel book suggestions. He offered 10:

Notes From a Small Island or In a Sunburned Country or Notes From a Big Country by Bill Bryson.
Jenkins says: “Bryson’s easygoing style and tremendous, laugh-out-loud sense of humor belie a stunning craftmanship.”

Bad Land or Hunting Mr. Heartbreak or Old Glory by Jonathan Raban.
Jenkins says: “Raban is a master of the English language whose journeys reveal not just the surface superficialities of a place, but its history and significance.”

Imperium or The Soccer War or The Emperor or Shah of Shahs by Ryszard Kapuscinski.
Jenkins says: “Geopolitical travel at its sharpest. Kapuscinski has a crystalline style that cuts directly to the heart of the matter.”
