Inside the ‘2008 Typo Hunt Across America’
The manifesto makes clear, though, that it’s not about making people look stupid or feel bad.
The hunt has reached the West Coast—and national TV news. ABC profiled Deck yesterday, following him around Hollywood as he used his Wite-Out, crayons and markers to add apostrophes and hyphens to typo-riddled signage. From Los Angeles, Deck and company will head up the coast “to stamp out as many typos as we can find, in public signage and other venues where innocent eyes may be befouled by vile stains on the delicate fabric of our language.” Good luck, members of the Typo Eradication Advancement League. If for some reason you ever need some tips on where to go to find some typos to correct, I’m sure the members of the Flickr groups “Quotation Mark” Abuse and Atrocious Apostrophe’s can help out.

COMMENTSI think Jeff Deck needs to read the Grammar Cop files on Brian Sack’s Banterist, where there are many photographed submissions from vigilant grammarians from California Correctional Services to the Metropolitan Typo Authority to the Memphis Linguistic Vice Unit to the Rhode Island Auxiliary Grammatical Police Force, and more:

I am so glad Jeff is doing this! It is unbelievable how many misspelled words or misplaced apostrophes, to name a couple, are on public and professional signs. Jeff, you have my support! Keep up the great work and safe travels to you. By on 4.7.08 at 07:56 PM
I fight with waiters when I show them mispelled words in the menu! I also found capusino, like that, and raviole. It drives me crazy. People should read a book every week.
